A short drive northeast of Cape Town takes you to the Cape Winelands. Rolling hills, quiet valleys, and quaint villages provide a beautiful backdrop to this food- and wine-loving region. The hills surrounding Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Franschhoek are home to a unique collection of wineries that produce many of the wines that South Africa is famous for. Whether you want to embark on a wine-tasting adventure for the first time or are a seasoned wine enthusiast, the region offers an educational and tranquil tasting experience. The close proximity of the Winelands allows you to be able to take half-day or full-day tours from Cape Town. We also recommend spending a night or more at one of the wineries or quaint boutique hotels nestled in the beautiful hills in order to fully indulge in the region’s delectable wine and culinary experiences.
The Cape experiences slightly different seasons than the rest of South Africa. With a particularly long, comfortable summer from November to March, the Winelands is a great place to visit all year long. Nighttime temperatures get quite cool throughout the year, so it is best to dress in layers. The Cape receives the majority of its rain during the winter months from April to September.
